You may have heard about Seymour Hersh’s bombshell story today that implicates the US and Norway as the culprits who blew up the Nord Stream pipelines last year.
For those who don’t know the work of Hersh, he’s among the most legendary old-school investigative journalists. He broke the story of the My Lai massacre of a whole village of over 500 civilians by US soldiers in 1968 that turned many Americans against the Vietnam war. (Of note, a Major Colin Powell was assigned to lead the investigation of the massacre, and he covered it up, earning himself a trip up the golden ladder to Secretary of State under Bush) He broke the story of the torture of prisoners at Abu Ghraib by US soldiers in Iraq. In 2008 he wrote “Preparing the Battlefield”, published in the New Yorker magazine, that told of the Bush administration plans to destroy Iran, partly by destroying Syria first using terrorist groups, and then of course the Obama, Trump, and Biden administrations proceeded to do exactly that. And in 2013 Hersh exposed Obama administration lies that framed the Assad government for faked Sarin gas attacks that the West used as pretext for bombing raids against Syria. So he’s got some street cred.
Rather than post the whole Hersh article here, I’ll just post the link below. It’s an interesting read.
A big revelation in the article is that the US apparently began planning the pipeline attack well before the Russian military crossed the border into Ukraine. So the destruction of the pipelines was going to happen regardless of what Putin did. No surprise though, as we know the US and Britain were determined to force Russia into a war that was planned since before the 2014 coup that installed the puppet government in Ukraine that began murdering ethnic Russians.
One of the truly bizarre aspects to the story is that German Chancellor Olaf Scholz apparently was briefed and agreed to the destruction of the pipelines, despite the fact that the pipelines were the most critical energy infrastructure for German economic prosperity. This is an epic betrayal of the german people by their government, as well as an act of war and a major crime against Germany and Russia by the US. It will be interesting to see the reaction in Germany to this story.
If you really understand the history of WWI and WWII, then this pipeline attack wasn’t a surprise at all. There’s a classic saying that both world wars were essentially about “keeping the Germans down and the Russians out”. By the late 1800’s, Germany was clearly on track to overtake Britain as the dominant economy of Europe, and the British were determined to not let that happen. And if Germany and Russia ever got together, with Germany’s unrivaled technical and industrial capacity combined with Russia’s massive energy and natural resources, together they’d be the premier economy on the planet. So for the past century, and up to the present, the Anglo-American empire simply will not allow Germany and Russia to get together, even if it means another world war.
And here in DK the silence about this is so loud that it is ridiculous. No one utters a word.
